New case study - Complex Systems Mapping of Sustainable Cooling Landscape in Pune, India

Date

In a major step toward sustainable urban cooling, Sumedha Basu and Frin Bale, along with local stakeholders in Pune, India have co-created two systems maps that reveal the complex landscape of the city’s cooling infrastructure. Developed through a participatory mapping process, the visual frameworks offer policymakers a strategic overview of the socio-technical system, highlighting key areas for intervention and collaboration.

These maps serve as a shared foundation for all future cooling decarbonization efforts, helping decision-makers identify priority zones, leverage points, and cross-sector impacts. By enabling a holistic yet focused view, the initiative aims to guide more integrated and effective climate action across Pune.
