Blog Post - Unlocking the power of local knowledge, expertise & collaboration for sustainable cooling in cities
Dr Sumedha Basu, Postdoctoral Research Fellow - Urban Energy systems and complexity at the University of Leeds has written a new blog post for the Horizons Institute.
As climate change intensifies extreme heat events, researchers are turning their focus to sustainable cooling solutions that don’t drive up carbon emissions. With support from the Horizons Connect Fund, Dr Frin Bale and Dr Sumedha Basu have helped launch the Clean Cool Pune Network (CCPN) a first-of-its-kind urban stakeholder platform aimed at rethinking cooling strategies in the Indian city of Pune. Led by the University of Leeds and in partnership with Pune’s all-women Dr Bhanuben Nanavati College of Architecture, the initiative brings together experts from space and industrial cooling sectors. The network is designed to influence policy at local, state, and national levels, and builds on earlier research into integrated urban heat systems. Dr Basu emphasizes the importance of community collaboration in shaping climate-resilient cities.
